Porter assists clients in the hospitality industry, the government and the private sector, with regulatory and business law issues, including zoning and land use, insurance and liquor law. He joined the firm in 2002.
Administrative Law
Jeff assists clients in obtaining necessary operating permits and licenses and represents clients in violation hearings before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission and in administrative appeals of decisions of state and local agencies that affect their businesses. Accordingly, he advises buyers and sellers in liquor permit / asset acquisitions and he advises clients on multi-state liquor licensing requirements.

Jeff is an experienced lobbyist, who regularly advocates clients’ interests before state and local officials. He also adds value to his client relationships by monitoring legislation and advising them on recent changes that can affect their businesses. Jeff also monitors and advises clients on ethics disclosures and lobbyist registration matters.

Jeff advises clients on zoning and land use matters of all kinds, including eminent domain and annexation proceedings. He also assists clients by obtaining variances and re-zoning on their behalf.

Career Highlights
- Former Assistant City Attorney for the City of Columbus and member of the Business and Regulations section of the Columbus City Attorney’s Office from 1997 to 2002. Represented the City of Columbus Department of Development on issues related to the interpretation, enforcement and application of the City Code to various development projects throughout the city of Columbus.
- Successfully argued City of Columbus v. New Plan Realty Trust (94 Ohio St.3d 193) in front of City Supreme Court of Ohio. Case held that dividends paid to shareholders by real estate investment trust (REIT) were not deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses for municipal income tax purposes.
